Fuengirola
is situated just twenty minutes from Málaga
airport, the local train station provides easy access
to such popular nearby resorts as Benalmádena
, Arroyo de la Miel, Torremolinos
and Málaga
capital as well. Fuengirola is probably most famous
for it's more than five miles (8 km) of sandy beaches,
with high-rise hotels and apartments offering magnificent
views of the Mediterranean and the coastline. The
beaches along Fuengirola, Los Boliches - Gaviotas
and Torreblanca hold the European blue quality flag.The
beachfront is flanked by one of the longest promenades
in Spain to provide the perfect venue for the traditional
Spanish "paseo", the popular past time of
promenading with no particular destination in mind!
Fuengirola offers entertainment
for all tastes and ages from a ride on the tourist
train or horse and carriage around the town to a visit
to the zoo. Enjoy a day at the water park or spend
some time in the Sohail River Park. At night, Fuengirola
truly comes alive with every kind of bar, restaurant
and club you can imagine. Here you will also find
cinemas with a wide range of films, theatres with
a full program and in the summer, regular festivals
and concerts at the old Arab castle.
Fuengirola is an international
resort, with tourists and residents of every nationality
and this is evident, everywhere you look but it is
also particularly popular with Spanish nationals,
many of whom own summer apartments here. The advantage
of staying here is that it is a compact seaside resort
and town which has an excellent selection of supermarkets
and competitively priced shops. The Tuesday market
is the biggest outdoor market on the coast and attracts
visitors from nearby resorts as well as the locals.
There is also a huge Saturday boot sale here with
the usual selection of items on sale.
Next to the main resort area
you'll find Los Boliches with winding
narrow streets and traditional whitewashed houses.
This is a small community tagged onto the end of Fuengirola.
Los Boliches itself has its own beaches, shopping
centres and much more and it's quieter than Fuengirola
centre. Eastwards of Los Boliches is Torreblanca,
due to it's position on the limits of the town it
tends to be the most quiet part of Fuengirola.
