Mijas is a
municipality divided intro three different areas:
Mijas Pueblo, conserving the charm
of a traditional Andalucian "white village",
Las Lagunas adjacent to Fuengirola
is the most modern area of Mijas where you can find
industrial and commercial areas and finally Mijas
Costa. Mijas Costa is the part of the municipality
of Mijas which covers the 12 kilometre stretch of
coastline joining (from East to West) El Faro, El
Chaparral, La Cala de Mijas, Torrenueva and Calahonda
and takes in the two major urbanizations, Riviera
del Sol and Sitio de Calahonda.
Mijas Pueblo:
One of the jewels of the Costa del Sol is the beautiful
little village of Mijas. It is a typically Andalusian
white-washed village located at a mountain side 428
m above mean sea level, in the heart of the Costa
del Sol region. Many artists and writers have made
it their home, enjoying the benefits of an excellent
all year round climate, without being part of the
busier, more commercial coastal towns just 7 kilometres
down the mountain side.
Las Lagunas:
This is the most modern area of the municipality where
the industrial and commercial areas are found. It
offers all the pertaining services of a big municipality:
Health centre, sports facilities, schools, institutes,
cultural centre, library and also "Aquatic
Park Mijas" a very popular water park.
Mijas Costa: La
Cala de Mijas is the central point of Mijas Costa
and although it has grown, especially over the last
decade, it still maintains something of its Andalucian
village by the sea atmosphere. The La Cala beach has
been granted the E.U. Blue Flag and offers all types
of services and activities. Riviera del Sol is just
a short distance along the coast from La Cala in the
Marbella direction and
sparkling sea and quiet beaches can be enjoyed from
many of the beach bars and restaurants. Calahonda
is rustic in style with limited high-rise buildings,
lots of green areas and very popular with tourists.
It has a large array of leisure and recreational activities
on offer including golf and tennis clubs and a good
variety of restaurants and bars.
